4 reasons why subscribing to RSS feeds can make your internet life easier
I recently began subscribing to RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds and am a full-fledged convert. There are a multitude of online resources that explain the concept of RSS, so I won’t do so here. For people who don’t live on the internet as I seem to, the concept of subscribing to feeds can be confusing, or one that people don’t feel is worth the time and effort to understand. I thought I would offer some basic insights as to how you can leverage the concept to benefit your time spent online. Allow me to offer a few points as to why subscribing to RSS feeds can make your internet life easier.
- No need to bookmark individual sites
- Articles nicely organized within feed reader
- Easy, streamlined access via mobile browser
- Articles free of clutter, e.g., advertisements, links, etc.
There are a number of choices when it comes to readers for your subscribed content, but I prefer the ease and accessibility of Google Reader. Among other reasons, it integrates seamlessly with my BlackBerry Pearl. The process is simple; login to Google Reader and click on the Add Subsciption link. Now, add your favorite sites, for example, clawblog, and you’re off and running.
Most sites also includes icons with links on their pages which allow you to subscribe. Clawblog includes various options to subscribe in the top right corner of each page, including Google Reader.
